Kelly Queener is a painter and musician, who plays in the band Peace Beast. I met her at The Broadberry where she was introduced to me by Kyle Harris as “someone else who like to talk about all of this esoteric shit that doesn’t matter”. So we sat down there and had a chat and I quickly decided this needed to be a Tantric Conversation. So here we go, a little chat, a little song sample, a very interesting and talented person she is I am sure you will agree. Also I have no idea what that message is about at the top, does it matter?

A few weeks ago I invited Chip Cosby, Kyle Harris and Ryan Muldoon over for dinner and we set up the mics. We all like to talk about the esoteric and the transcendent and we all seem to have our feet firmly planted in rock and roll so I hatched this scheme to at least hang out if not record,so we got to talking and then I turned on the mics, what follows is a postprandial parley of a salon variety you will just have to guess at any given time who is talking since you can’t see us. Jessie Star Kelley is merry prankster for the new millennium. She’s a traveler, a partier, a character I have always enjoyed. She blew back into town to shoot a reality series called Hell’s Satans and I invited her over to catch up and then I ended up turning on the mics and I’m glad I did. Eric Manweller is an art teacher, painter and also the leader of Eric Hunter and the Distractions. When I met him he was in Peru and we haunted the same haunts and he was always good for some pub talk. I invited Eric to be on the cast aware that he is playing music but mainly because I remembered we’d always had good chats whenever we ran into each other. This was no exception. We kept rolling after the mics were off and it was a reminder for me that even if no one listens to these at all it’s a damn good excuse to hang out with great fucking people for an hour or so.

Over the last six years he has played a role in creating a process by which the ephemeral can be supported, valued and connected in a town which has had a tough time being all that appreciative of its home grown talent. Heather Bailey is the choreographer, aerial artiste and leader of the Host of Sparrows. A group of people teaching and learning an acrobatic art form and a sort of spiritual practice alongside each other. A floating Sangha if you will. Heather as I recall has, without having such an ambitious project under her wing, always been a person who was the rose on the dungheap of Richmond when it was at it’s dungiest to me. I always enjoyed running into her but had no idea how much I would enjoy this chance to find out more about her and what she do. Behold.

Sean or as he is affectionately known by those who have affection for him, “Scene” is a Guitar Player, Bass Player, Pizza Maker and perennial wit. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the guy without a kind of knowing wink and a smirk on his face, a charming one of course. He was in the incubator for a distinctly Richmond musical form some refer to as ” Math Rock” but as I reflect on it would seem to me the way these guys played with time was the way comedians play with timing, so maybe it could use another name, Prat-Rock? Get it? Like Prat Fall…no? I don’t know I’ll work on that… Sean was a member of Pledge Allegiance, Butterglove, Ladyfinger, Human Thurma, The Rams and Man Again and is now writing and performing as Snakes on Champagne. Kyle Harris of the Diamond Center and I get into some cosmic flow and break it down for you guys. I think over this two hour period we pretty much work out the nature of existence, God, ego, what have you, so you’re welcome for that. I would like to have asked him more about his band and where he’s from, but it was not meant to be, we clearly had another mission laid out for us. So prepare to be enlightened…. or bored.
